Young adulthood is an exciting time to process who we are and what difference we want to make in our communities and world. Tanita Maddox shares that the top three questions Generation Z is asking are: who am I, where do I fit and what difference can I make?
Consider how spending your summer at camp can help you process these questions.
Who am I?
Working at camp will teach you a lot about yourself and how you interact with others. As a bunch of different personality types come together to work at camp and accomplish a common goal, you’ll discover more about yourself, your work style and how you manage conflict. This will be extremely beneficial for years to come as you continue to collaborate with others.
It will also build confidence as you work alongside a team to accomplish goals during the summer. As you work at camp, you’ll learn how to care for and lead a group of kids, speak in front of large groups and make decisions quickly. This will boost your confidence and these soft skills will be helpful in your future career.
Where do I fit?
Camp is a community where everyone belongs! As you work with a tight-knit team to show campers that they are welcome and accepted at your camp, you’ll find this sense of belonging for yourself as well. As you use your unique gifts to contribute to your camp community, you’ll figure out where you fit within a team.
What difference can I make?
Camp is a life-changing experience! When kids come to camp they enter into a community where they find hope and belonging. You play a role in introducing campers to activities in nature where they can build their confidence and learn ways to cope with the stress and challenges back home. When campers participate in activities like a high-ropes course, horseback riding or water skiing, they realize their own strength and courage. Make a difference in the lives of the next generation by spending your summer at camp!
